The son of the late Merle Haggard, Ben Haggard, turned to social media on May 17 to post a rendition of the classic country hit "Seven Spanish Angels." The track went all the way to No. 1 in 1984 when one of Merle's closest friends, Willie Nelson, released the single as a duet with Ray Charles.

In the Instagram post, Haggard is trying to start a collaboration between the two familes' next generations by challenging Nelson's son, Lukas Nelson, to continue the song by playing the next verse.

"Grab the next verse @lukasnelsonpotr," Haggard captioned his video.

Haggard's spin on the classic hit was executed perfectly; there's no doubting who his father is. The younger Haggard has been around country music his entire life, and was even a member of his father's band. His father passed away on April 6, the singer's 79th birthday. Following his death, Haggard shared on social media his adoration for his father, as well that the Country Music Hall of Famer knew his time was coming.

“A week ago dad told us he was gonna pass on his birthday, and he wasn’t wrong, a hour ago he took his last breath surrounded by family and friends,” he wrote. “He loved everything about life and he loved that everyone of you gave him a chance with his music. He wasn’t just a country singer. He was the best country singer that ever lived.”
