Blaine Mitchell Snags Last Spot on Team Blake With ‘Drops of Jupiter’ on ‘The Voice’
Blake Shelton will use any common thread to woo a contestant on The Voice to his team, even chatting about a venue they’ve both played, much to the other coaches’ chagrin. But hey, it works — Shelton added soulful pop-rocker Blaine Mitchell to his team this week during the last round of Blind Auditions.
Mitchell performed Train’s “Drops of Jupiter” with power and a distinct control over his impressive vocals, causing both Shelton and Gwen Stefani to turn around. His stage presence and passion for singing was clearly evident in his performance, and the impressive note he hit in the bridge was his ticket to the next round.
After the performance, Shelton of course used their commonalities to connect, primarily the fact that they had both played at a venue called Cowboy’s Dance Hall in Arlington, Texas.
“Get a room, you two!” Shelton’s fellow coach and frenemy Adam Levine heckled as Shelton tried to win over the contestant.
Ultimately, Mitchell couldn’t be swayed by Stefani and chose to join Team Blake.
“I gotta go with Blake on this one,” he said with a smile.
Shelton’s team has put out several successful artists in the past over the nine seasons he has served as a coach, and only time will tell whether Mitchell has what it takes to go all the way. Hear his full performance in the video above.
