The Kids’ Choice Awards are showing Blake Shelton some love this year, not only asking him to host, but also nominating him for Favorite Male Vocalist. Shelton will be trying to avoid slime and helping give out the famous orange blimps live on March 12 on Nickelodeon.

“The nominees are out now and I can’t wait to see who wins,” Shelton says. “We’ve got categories for everybody – TV, movies, video games, actors, singers, everything you can think of. It’s all in there. Make sure you get out there and vote, and we’ll see you at the show.”

The singer is known for his goofy personality and unpredictable antics, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to host. Plus, he’s got hosting experience with the ACM Awards, though he has since passed the torch for that event to Dierks Bentley. Unlike the Kids' Choice Awards, the ACMs passed Shelton over for nominations this year, but he said he isn’t too concerned about it. The country star is getting ready to release a new, deeply personal record reflecting his tough journey over the last year dealing with his divorce from Miranda Lambert and admits he’s anxious to get it into the hands of fans and hopes to have it out by May of this year.

“I’ve written more than I’ve written in 15 years, for obvious reasons — all the awful things that have happened in my personal life — but the way the year ended is also the greatest of my life,” Shelton explains. “I want to get it out there. It’s driving me nuts to not be already into that project because it’s all I’m thinking about.”

But first, the slime.

“My agent called and was like, ‘Is there anything you can think of that you want to do?'” he tells the Today show, “And I was thinking, ‘I want to host those Kids’ Choice Awards. I want to do this thing with kids, it’s fun. I want to get slimed.'"
