Blake Shelton admits that on paper, he and Gwen Stefani may not make much sense as a couple, even to him. In a recent interview with ET, Shelton says he never would’ve predicted their relationship.

"It's not something that anybody could have seen coming, besides God, I guess. It doesn't look like it makes sense, you know? But all I can tell you is, it does, it just makes the most perfect sense for us and where we're at in our lives,” Shelton shares.

The artist has just released a new record titled If I’m Honest that dives into the ups and downs of his last year, including his split from wife Miranda Lambert and finding love again with Stefani when he least expected it.

"Even coming into [her] second season [working on] The Voice, I didn't even really know her that well. All of a sudden this thing just happened because of some things we were going through and it saved my life, period,” he adds.

Stefani has said the same about Shelton — that he saved her from a dark place.

“In all of this craziness that happened, all of this unexpected horribleness, I found a friend that was going through literally the exact same thing as me,” Stefani told CBS This Morning in March. “That is a miracle, and it just saved me so much. I feel so grateful for that.”

The two have been pretty candid about their relationship, including writing and recording a duet together for Shelton’s album, which they performed together recently on The Voice.

Shelton released If I’m Honest on May 20.
