No. 61: Joe Nichols, ‘I’ll Wait for You’ – Top 100 Country Love Songs

I'll Wait for You
Universal South

This could be the saddest of all of the 100 songs on the Top 100 Country Love Songs list. Joe Nichols‘ 2007 hit tells the story of a man stuck in snow as he tries to get home to see his wife, who is very ill. It’s a desperate story of true love, and the inevitability of loss.

I’ll wait for you at Heaven’s gate / Oh, I don’t care how long it takes / And I’ll tell Saint Pete I can’t come in / Without my love and my best friend ,” Nichols sings on this song from the ‘III’ album. If you’ve loved, you no doubt fought back tears after hearing this Top 10 hit.
