Like so many musicians, Keith Urban was stunned and saddened by news of Prince's death on Thursday (April 21). The "Wasted Time" singer says he had a chance to jam with him once, but he was too jet-lagged.

Urban tells Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex that Prince was touring Australia while he was a coach with Seal on the Australian version of The Voice. The two coaches learned of a Prince afterparty show at a small club. Seal urged Urban to go, but the country singer recoiled when he found out what time Prince would take the stage.

“Midnight? 1AM? Nah,'" he recalls saying. "'No, I won’t be able to make that.'”

“So I blew it off, and the next day I was on the set and I said to Seal, ‘What happened last night?’ He said, ‘It was awesome! Prince played for three hours, I got up and sang. It’s a pity; you could have come, you could have jammed with us as well.’”

Urban did get the chance to see Prince live and he was a fan. But today, like so many in country music and beyond, he's saddened by the death of yet another music legend.

"Wasted Time" is the current single from Urban's upcoming Ripcord album, set for a May 6 release. The album features a duet with Carrie Underwood and a special collaboration with rapper Pitbull.

Earlier in the day, Taste of Country was on hand as Hillary Scott learned of Prince's death. Her reaction was raw, emotional and bittersweet.
