Lady Antebellum ‘Live’ for Touring, Charles Kelley Insists

Along with the birth of Lady Antebellum‘s first band baby last summer came a lapse in touring while Hillary Scott adjusted to motherhood. But trio member Charles Kelley insists that the break doesn’t equal indifference at all — in fact, the band lives to bring music to their fans.

After Eisele was born, Dave Haywood and Kelley – the other two members of the country music power group — took a little time off too, and it was much-needed time, indeed.

“We had 6 or 7 months off the road comin’ at us,” Kelley tells Chicago Sun-Times. “But we had been [touring] hard for 7 or 8 years without more than two or three weeks off. So to have a few months off, I did stop and take a breath for a little while. I went to Italy with my wife, played some golf. Had a little life outside work.”

But don’t think that Kelley enjoyed hitting the greens more than hitting the stage.

“On the flip side, it made me realize how much I miss music and touring and how much I love it,” says the singer. “It’s just a crazy rush to be out on that stage again. We live for that feeling. We missed our fans so much.”

That’s why, after their short break, Kelley and Haywood immediately got back into the studio, with Scott following shortly after her maternity leave. That hard work turned into ‘Golden Deluxe,’ a special edition of Lady A’s hit record ‘Golden.’

The additional songs helped Lady A evolve into the show-stopping live band they are today, with contemporary hits like ‘Compass’ and ‘And the Radio Played.’

“We’ve always been much more of a contemporary country band. This last album was much more organic and stripped down,” Kelley explains. “We’ve done the heartbreak stuff a lot, so we want to show a different side of the band. But we needed that really fun, kickin’ song for the live shows. So the show now is basically everybody up and on their feet the whole time. We’ve got the ballads but we’ve also got the really rockin’ uptempo songs that get people excited and singing along.”

Sounds like Scott, Kelley and Haywood will adore those huge singalongs just as much as the fans. In fact, the ‘Downtown’ singers love touring so much, they added an additional leg onto their Take Me Downtown Tour, which had originally been postponed due to their desire to make it the best experience possible … also for their fans.

Lady A is already getting the ball rolling on their next album.
