In a surprise upset, Luke Bryan took home the coveted Entertainer of the Year award at the 2013 Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night (April 7) -- beating out more established stars like Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift.

The industry audience erupted into cheers after Shania Twain -- in her first ACMs appearance in a decade -- announced the award. The entertainer appeared stunned at his own win, visibly moved to tears.

"This is -- uh, I don't know what to say," Bryan said. "Fans, thank you so much for making my life what it is. What I always wanted to be was a country singer that got to ride on a tour bus and show up at a new stage and play music every night."

Bryan thanked his business team, as well as other artists he has opened for. "All the guys that I've watched from the side of the stage -- and I swear to God, every time I step on stage, it is a blessing for me to play for fans," he added.

"This is the defining moment of my life, and it means so much to me," the singer concluded. "I would never take it for granted."
