Shawn Mendes is the inspiration for the term "Vine famous." The young singer began posting music covers on his Vine page years ago and was "discovered." Two years later, Mendes has released his own music, even touring with Taylor Swift. In this throwback video, the pop singer covers a Hunter Hayes song.

The clip finds the Canadian singer with just his guitar and a microphone, but that's all he needs. His vocals are effortless, and though this rendition leans more pop than Hayes' original, it's worth a watch by country fans.

"I really like this song and have got a lot of requests on it," Mendes explains below the video. Judging by the number of views, his fans were happy to hear the cover — it's been viewed over 1.4 million times.

Part of the video's success may be that the 17-year-old has gone from just being "Vine famous" to being an actual touring artist in his own right. His biggest hit is the 2015 song "Stitches," which climbed to No. 4 on the American charts.
