Miranda Lambert is featured on her idol Steve Earle's latest project, So You Wannabe an Outlaw, released on June 16. The singer assists on the song "This Is How It Ends," a rollicking three-minute jam that has a couple looking back on their failing relationship.

"Forever wasn't just another word back then," Earle and Lambert sing together. The track has the two singers now realizing the red flags early on in their relationship and how friends often warned them, "you were only gonna break my heart."

Lambert is a longtime fan of Earle's and has covered his songs frequently throughout her live shows. During a performance at Austin City Limits in 2006, she covered his song "Hillbilly Highway," citing his influence on her music: "We're going to rip him off too. We already did a Merle [Haggard] song, we're going to do one of his. I think it's OK to rip off people you like."

Lambert is just one of several collaborations on Earle's latest project. So You Wannabe an Outlaw includes songs previously recorded by Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Billy Joe Shaver, all available on the album's deluxe edition.

In addition to Lambert's admiration for country acts that have come before her, she has a special place in her heart for shelter dogs. The singer recently hosted a parade at CMA Fest 2017 which ended with an adoption drive. Her MuttNation Foundation — a charity she started with her mother in 2009 to raise awareness for shelter dogs — has led to the adoption of hundreds of dogs.
