Eli Young Band

Eli Young Band have worked their way up to becoming one of country music's most respected bands over the course of a long, slow climb. The band formed initially as a duo comprising Mike Eli and James Young, who met at the University of North Texas. They became a band with the addition of Chris Thompson and Jon Jones, and released their self-titled debut album in 2002. The group released 'Level' in 2005 and began building a large touring base, but they didn't really get their biggest national break until 2011, when 'Life at Best' took off on the strength of "Crazy Girl," their first No. 1 hit. They followed up with another No. 1 single, "Even if It Breaks Your Heart," which was nominated for ACM and Grammy awards. They followed up that breakthrough with "Drunk Last Night," another No. 1 from their 2013 album, '10,000 Towns,' which also spawned the hit single, "Dust." Most recently, EYB released a new EP titled 'Turn It On,' featuring the title track as its first single.

The Eli Young Band guys have often had to explain that there is no Eli Young in their band, their name is just a combination of two people's last names -- singer Mike Eli and guitarist James Young. When faced with a pizza delivery man who shared the moniker Eli Young, however, that justification didn't hold up. In this funny new video, the foursome race the real Mr. Eli Young for naming rights. Make it two in a row for Cody Canada and the Departed. 'Skyline Radio,' their No. 1 hit on the Texas radio chart, knocked off Cody Johnson's 'Diamond in My Pocket' by the slimmest of margins, which means the group will move on to face a new challenger during this week's Taste of Country Texas Red Dirt Rumble.

Like millions of Americans who watched President Obama's State of the Union address on Tuesday night, the Eli Young Band paid close attention to the details of his message -- at least for as long as they could before likely toppling over. A recent tweet from the band indicates they made a drinking game out of the 65-minute long speech.
