Taylor Swift Blasts John Mayer for ‘Presumptuous’ Comments About ‘Dear John’

Taylor Swift is not one to kiss and tell — something John Mayer now knows all too well following the ‘Begin Again’ singer’s recent interview with Glamour Magazine. The country superstar put her former flame on blast after being confronted with Mayer’s allegations of ‘cheap songwriting‘ and humiliation tactics regarding her song ‘Dear John.’

“How presumptuous! I never disclose who my songs are about,” Swift says of Mayer’s insinuation that the tune was written in response to the pair’s toxic relationship. The sharp-tongued track quickly became a fan favorite from the singer’s 2010 ‘Speak Now’ album, although the song was never given a proper radio release.

“I know it wasn’t good, so I don’t want to know,” Swift says of Mayer’s criticism. “I put a high priority on staying happy, and I know what I can’t handle. It’s not that I’m this egomaniac and I don’t want to hear anything negative, because I do keep myself in check. But I’ve never developed that thick a skin.”

She admits, “I just kind of live a life, and I let all the gossip live somewhere else. If you go too far down the rabbit hole of what people think about you, it can change everything about who you are.”

The ‘Red’ singer also touched base on her wholesome persona, which she says not an entirely accurate portrayal. Though she does embrace her polished public image, Swift admits that her life may not be as charmed as onlookers may imagine.

“I think some people think it’s just apple pie and sunshine and sprinkles and ponies. Which is just funny. But I never feel the need to go out and make some grand statement that I’m dark and twisty and complicated, because I’m not that either,” she shares. “It’s just not as simple as ponies and rainbows, though I do love ponies and rainbows.”

Swift will once again put her personal life on display with the upcoming release of ‘Red,’ her fourth studio album due out Oct. 22. She had a hand in penning each of the album’s 16 tracks, including the crossover pop smash ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, as well as the current country chart climber, ‘Begin Again.’

The album promises to be Swift’s ‘darkest‘ offering, but judging by her recent remarks, we don’t expect the lyrical genius to divulge her latest music muses anytime soon.
