Team Blake Welcomes Suzanna Choffel After Soulful Cover of ‘Landslide’ on ‘The Voice’

Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton was the second judge to turn around after Suzanna Choffel’s stellar performance of ‘Landslide’ on last night’s (Sept. 24) episode of ‘The Voice,’ but the country crooner snagged the 32-year-old hopeful from friend and fellow celebrity mentor Adam Levine. He now has 12 of his 16 singers for the third season of the wildly popular reality show.

“You did a rock song — in my opinion with a little country flair to it,” observed Shelton as he tried to coax the singer to join his team. “I’m from Texas,” remarked Choffel, clearly forming an alliance with the southern-bred country music superstar.

The Dixie Chicks released their soulful cover of the Fleetwood Mac tune in 2002, reaching No. 2 on the country charts with the rock classic. ‘Landslide’ first appeared on the iconic rock band’s 1975 self-titled album, and was one of the group’s first contribution from member Stevie Nicks — a singer Choffel admitted to idolizing.

“I did grow up to listening to Stevie — Fleetwood Mac,” confessed the singer when asked if she purposely emulated the rock legend’s soulful, husky tone. “It’s kinda my natural voice.”

Choffel followed her instincts and chose Team Shelton, a decision the reigning CMA Vocalist of the Year was clearly ecstatic about. “She didn’t do anything flashy, she let her artistry speak for itself,” Shelton said after the hopeful left the stage.

Tune in to NBC tonight (Sept. 25) at 9 PM ET to find out if any of tonight’s hopefuls join Choffel as part of Team Blake.
