New singles from country superstars are scattered across the list of the Top 40 country songs for August 2013, but it’s the relative newcomers who take many of the top spots. Kip Moore, Brett Eldredge, Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr all made big leaps with their songs, but it was another singer on his first album that tops them all … again.

New cuts from country mainstays like Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton and Jake Owen are just beginning their ascent up the ToC Top 40. Randy Travis breaks into this monthly list for the first time ever with ‘Tonight I’m Playing Possum,’ a tribute to George Jones. Search for new singles from Jason Aldean, the Eli Young Band and Little Big Town, as well — all made big jumps in August.

The list of the Top 40 Country Songs for August 2013 is compiled from Billboard chart data and sales figures, in addition to staff opinion and reader feedback.
