Only two songs from the Top 5 of last month's Top 40 Country Songs list made the July 2012 version. That goes to show how quickly a new song can gain and lose favor with country music fans. The monthly list is compiled using chart and sales data, as well as reader feedback and staff opinions.

One of those holdovers is the No. 1 song on the Top 40 Country Songs list for July 2012. He's followed by a country superstar who's released his most pensive ballad in years, plus a long line of country newcomers. Little Big Town and Hunter Hayes are two artists with songs on this list of the Top 40 Country Songs that are well ahead of their chart position. Both Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood make their debut with their latest singles.
