‘The Voice': Spensha Baker Takes it to Church With Maren Morris Cover
Monday night (May 14) on The Voice saw the eight remaining contestants on the show paired up to sing special song “mashups," as well as a meaningful solo on their respective own. For fans of country music, the solo performance standout was Team Blake Shelton's Spensha Baker, whose solo performance of Maren Morris's "My Church" was likely the delivery of the evening.
"I loved the version [Morris] did at the CMAs," Baker raved prior to her performance. "She really took it to church." Shelton cautioned her that the song is not the easiest to tackle, but Baker had no problem taking it to church herself, giving it the perfect gospel flair she's been cultivating as a standout quality on the show this season.
Shelton showered her with praise afterwards. "It’s like everything she’s been holding back this entire season, the dam just broke," he raved, noting that he couldn't think of a better time for this breakthrough to happen. "I’ll be shocked if you’re not in the finale," he concluded.
Shelton is the most successful coach in The Voice's history, and he currently still has three artists in the running this season: Pryor Baird and Kyla Jade, as well as Baker. Will he prevail as the winner yet again? Tune in tomorrow (May 15) to see who made the cut. The special episode will also include a performance from Shelton as well as rising country star Kane Brown.
