There's a lot of love in country music, and our favorite artists aren't afraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves. Couples like Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, and Kane Brown and his wife Katelyn are known to plant a smooch or two on each other while in public. From award shows and red carpets to shows and everyday life, country music is all about the love.

Each year, National Kissing Day is celebrated on June 22. The day gives couples an excuse — like they need one — to put their love on display. However, smooches are not reserved just for lovers.

Kissing is a form of affection that can be used in many situations. Mothers may use a kiss to ease the pain of a child's injury. In ancient days, kissing someone's feet was a sign of deep reverence. Some cultures even greet one another with a kiss or two on the cheek.

NationalToday.com says the holiday is a great opportunity to express your feelings and even improve your health. They claim that kissing "relieves stress, burns calories and benefits your immunity."

The History Behind the Kiss

The same site reports that kissing was first documented in several texts as early as 1500 B.C in India. This form of pecking didn't utilize the lips, but was an act of rubbing each other's noses together. The first lips smacking was recorded in 326 B.C after the death of Alexander the Great.
