Darius Rucker's band, Hootie and the Blowfish, had a legendary run back in the '90s. Their album, Cracked Rear View, is one of the highest selling albums in the world, to this day.

I recently spoke with the "Wagon Wheel" singer, on Taste of Country Nights with Evan Paul On Demand, and he divulged something some might have assumed, but most didn't know.

When asked to share something surprising that he could tell us about the Hootie and the Blowfish days, Rucker delivered the tea.

"I think Hootie and the Blowfish had the reputation of being like the boys next door," he shared. "I think how hard we partied will surprise a few people."

When Rucker said this, he was very matter of fact and you could tell he had some stories that he could share that would shock most of us.

Rucker and his partying days started when he was a student at the University of South Carolina in the mid to late 1980s.

This obviously was way before social media, so at that point in time, it was sort of anything goes, especially backstage at a Hootie and the Blowfish concert.

Taking a look at it from 30,000 feet, Rucker is indeed correct in that some people assumed that they were kind of innocent boys next door. In a time when heavy metal was hard and full of alcohol and drugs, Hootie and the Blowfish was more of a softer rock group.

But from what Rucker divulged to us, that was most certainly not the case, as the boys of Hootie and the Blowfish were heavily partaking in partying behind the scenes.

You can check out the full interview with Rucker below.

You can read more about Rucker's partying days in Hootie and the Blowfish in his book, Life's Too Short: A Memoir by Darius Rucker, his book that is available to purchase now.
