How Luke Bryan Broke the News of His Record Label to Jon Langston
Rising country star Jon Langston was the first signee to Luke Bryan's fledgling record label, 32 Bridge Entertainment, and in a recent interview with Taste of Country, Langston sheds light on how he ended up in business with the country superstar.
Bryan launched 32 Bridge Entertainment — a record imprint that lives under his own label umbrella at UMG Nashville — in September 2018 and shockingly broke the news to Langston while the two were on Bryan's 2017 Farm Tour.
"Me and Luke met a couple years ago at a Christmas party," Langston recalls. "We had a cigar and just got to know each other and I told him what was going on (with Langston's career). He always had an ear out for me and just kept up with what I was doing and he came and saw a CMA Fest set and after he said, 'Hey man, why don’t you come out on the Farm Tour?' So I got to open up for him on Farm Tour and on Farm Tour he was like, 'What’s going on with your label stuff? Who are you signed with?' I was like, we've got some interest and people coming out to shows but no one’s really pulling the trigger. He said, 'Well, I’m gonna pull the trigger before they do. I’m gonna start a label and I’m gonna sign you first.' And I was just like, What? This is crazy."
Bryan stayed true to his word, and currently Bryan, Langston and Cole Swindell are rocking out on Bryan's 25-plus date Sunset Repeat Tour that runs through October.
"For all of us to be at the same place at the same time on tour, it’s like one big family," Langston says. "We all have the same manager and our whole team is out there. It’s not just us three, it's all of our crew, too. I definitely learn a lot from those guys out there. ... It’s fun and we have a blast."
Langston released his latest single "Now You Know" to country radio in late June.
