Country songwriter Sammy Johns had one big hit of his own during a 40-year career. His song 'Chevy Van' was called the song of the '70s by Rolling Stone magazine. It is songs like 'America' and 'Common Man' which country fans will always remember him for. He wrote the songs for Waylon Jennings and John Conlee respectively, and they made them hits. The North Carolina native died on Jan. 4 at the age of 66.
