Florida Georgia Line are one of the biggest superstar acts in country music today, but they were fresh faces in the genre back in 2013, when then-reigning country queen Taylor Swift unexpectedly joined them onstage.

In a recent episode of The Secret History of Country Music, we flashed back to those early days when FGL's debut single, "Cruise," was a recent No. 1 hit. When the duo performed at the Country Radio Seminar in 2013 as part of the New Faces of Country Music showcase, Swift — who was at the peak of her run as the biggest artist in country music — joined them for a surprise guest appearance on the career-making single.

That's just one of the stories Taste of Country revisited in the new video series The Secret of Country Music, which takes fans inside some of the craziest and most little-known stories about their favorite artists and songs. Did you know that one of the songwriters who got rich from the success of "Cruise" and launched his own career initially hoped someone else would record the song? And just imagine if it had remained in its original form — as a ballad?! That could have been a whole different story for Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley.

Click on the video above to get the inside scoop on "Cruise," and make sure to keep an eye out every Monday for a new episode of The Secret History of Country Music. Taste of Country News host Ania Hammar takes a deeper look at some of the hidden stories in country music.
