Midland was already grateful to Thomas Rhett for the opportunity to open for him on his 2018 Life Changes Tour, but the burgeoning superstar demonstrated an act of kindness that was truly special.

Rhett and Midland were tapped by Kenny Chesney to open for him at his sold-out show at Gillette Stadium in 2017 when Rhett decided to devote a portion of his set time to the rising country trio. In an interview with their record label Big Machine Label Group, the trio of Mark Wystrach, Jess Carson and Cameron Duddy share how Rhett was determined to give their first hit song, "Drinkin' Problem," the attention it deserves.

“We were the opening act. There weren’t a lot of people there, so Thomas Rhett...watched the whole show and he goes, 'man, not enough people saw you play. That’s a No. 1 song,'" Wystrach explains. "And we’re like, 'this is a lot of people, man. More than we’re used to.' That was pretty cool.'"

While the song's exposure was suitable enough for Midland, the "Unforgettable" singer was insistent on offering them another opportunity to showcase it.

"He goes, 'What if I bring y’all up during my set?' And then, sure enough, we kind of figured out an impromptu Thomas Rhett acoustic version of it and we came back out when the stadium was full," Wystrach recalls. "That was a really cool moment. A really cool act by a complete class-act guy."

The "Burn Out" singers have been on the road with Rhett since the tour launched in April, and have experienced his generous spirit on more than one occasion. "He’s just really passionate about kind of everything that he does," Wystrach describes. "He’s got a ol’ big heart.”

Midland and fellow opening act Brett Young continue on the road with Rhett through Oct. 27 when the tour wraps in Sacramento.
