Keith Urban, Eric Church and Maddie & Tae Win Early CMA Awards
The 2015 CMA Awards are set to air live on Wednesday night (Nov. 4), but Keith Urban, Eric Church and Maddie & Tae are already celebrating early wins.
Good Morning America revealed the winners in the categories of Musical Event of the Year and Music Video of the Year during their live broadcast Wednesday morning. Urban and Church won Musical Event with their collaboration on "Raise 'Em Up," while Maddie & Tae won in the Music Video category for their clever debut video for "Girl in a Country Song."
Urban and Church beat out efforts from Blake Shelton and Ashley Monroe, Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town, Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter and Willie Nelson with Merle Haggard for their award, exactly as Taste of Country predicted. Jaren Johnson, Jeffrey Steele and Tom Douglas wrote the song, which presented some of the most imaginative imagery of the year at country radio.
Maddie & Tae won out over offerings from Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves with "Girl in a Country Song," which used humor to make a very strong (and much-needed) point about the stereotypes found in bro-country videos. TK McKamy directed the innovative clip, which helped launch the duo to overnight success upon its release.
The rest of the winners in the 2015 CMA Awards will be revealed when the ceremony airs live from Nashville on Wednesday night on ABC, hosted once again this year by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.
