This classic country ballad has been recorded a handful of times in the last 50 years, but it's Eddy Arnold's 1965 rendition that received the most critical and commercial praise. The No. 58 entry on our Top 100 Country Love Songs list is often credited as leading the 1960s Nashville sound, which blended popular and traditional country elements to achieve one cohesive sound.

‘Make the World Away’ reached No. 1 on the country and adult contemporary charts and went into the Top 10 on the pop charts. The track most recently appeared Martina McBride‘s 2005 country covers project, ‘Timeless,’ proving that a well-crafted love song really can last the test of time.
