No matter how you celebrate, the day will revolve those who raised us — be it our biological fathers or those in our lives who have stepped up to the plate to be a dad when we needed them the most.

Over and over, the Lord describes himself as a loving father to all of His children. He cares for us and leads us, even disciplining us at times, as our heavenly father just like an earthly father does.

The Story of the Prodigal Son

Jesus even tells a parable in the New Testament about the prodigal son. In this story, He speaks of a son who demanded to get his inheritance from his father early so he could leave home. His father reluctantly gives it to him. The son squanders his money on pointless things to the point that he is broke and living among the pigs. At this moment he decides to return home with his tail between his legs.

While most think the father would reject his son for what he did, the father in this story actually rejoices at the return of his son. He's so happy to have his son home again that he throws a big party to welcome him back into the fold.

It's a beautiful story of unconditional love and forgiveness. It's a story about fatherhood.
