Garth Brooks Becomes a Grandfather
"Grandpa Garth" has a nice sound to it! Give it a few years, but that's what the Garth Brooks' new granddaughter may be calling him. The singer became a first-time grandfather this week, as his middle daughter, August Anna Brooks, gave birth to a baby girl.
Facebook photos indicate that the 19-year-old gave birth to baby Karalynn on Tuesday (July 23). The father is Chance Michael Russell, who also lives in Owasso, Okla. and attended the same high school as August and her older sister, Taylor. According to her Facebook profile, the couple has been together since October 2011. Prior to becoming a mother, August had worked at a law firm and started school at the University of Oklahoma. She graduated high school in 2012.
Brooks sent a statement to Tulsa World thanking fans for their well-wishes:
“Our family would first like to thank everyone for their warm wishes and sweet celebration of Baby K’s arrival. Our children’s lives have always been extremely private and they have been endlessly encouraged to be their own people.
We have always wanted them to be individuals and NOT be known as ‘someone’s daughters’. I have been amazed and grateful how the press has always respected this. I now ask that respect to please continue as this young family begins the greatest days of their lives.”
August was born in May 1994, just hours before the country music superstar won his fourth-consecutive Entertainer of the Year award at the ACMs. Brooks' youngest daughter, Allie, was born two years later, and the singer says he will not come out of retirement until she graduates from high school in 2014.
