Fighting was a theme at a recent #LetTheGirlsPlay, Song Suffragettes show in Nashville. Five girls all perform three songs each before coming together for one cover song. On this week it was Rachel Platten's "Fight Song."

Olivia Lane, Lena Stone, Kalie Shorr, Kolby Koloff and Emily Weisband are the five women singing, from left to right. That's Shorr in the middle playing guitar. She gets help from Stone on the box drum, and the duo lay down a thick arrangement for the others to play upon. After Stone's opening lyrics, Lane takes over. Her big country voice leads right to the chorus, sung by Shorr, with distant harmonies for the others.

Shorr also performed a new song called "Fight Like a Girl." The theme is appropriate given the focus of this Monday night singer-songwriter round. Song Suffragettes was created in response to the troubles women are having getting noticed in today's country music culture. The shows have grown from 10 people watching to sold-out shows at the Listening Room.

Taste of Country is proud to be a #LetTheGirlsPlay supporter. Every Sunday we feature cover songs, and the first week of each month you'll learn more about an up-and-coming artist. This month's featured artist is Ella Mae Bowen.
