Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation Bringing Homeless Pups to CMA Fest
Miranda Lambert will be performing at 2016 CMA Fest in Nashville this week, and she's bringing friends. The singer's dog rescue group, MuttNation Foundation, will be set up at Fan Fair X inside Music City Center in an attempt to secure forever homes for homeless animals.
Recently, MuttNation Foundation saved 54 Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes from a hoarding situation in Oklahoma. Those dogs will be brought to the event in Nashville in the hopes to find a new home for each.
“MuttNation is coming to CMA Fest, and we’re just going to try and bring awareness and get these dogs adopted,” Lambert tells the Tennessean. “Luckily they are Chihuahuas and everybody wants a cute little dog. I’m really glad that they caught them in time. It’s so sad. You see little dogs that have never had any love or care and you think, ‘Oh my God, is there 50 loving homes out there for these babies?’”
The adoption fee for each dog is $100. Adoptions begin Thursday (June 9) and run through Sunday (June 12) at the Music City Center. For those not able to take the dogs home right away, MuttNation will house the dogs through Monday (June 13).
“It’s just about … having people realize shelter dogs are not scary and shelters are not scary places,” Lambert explains. “A pedigree means nothing. They steal your heart and are awesome.”
Lambert, a proud owner of seven rescue dogs, performs Thursday night at Nissan Stadium.
“To be able to have this platform to go, ‘Hey, I’m performing and thank you all for being faithful fans all these years, but also here’s this cause that’s near and dear to my heart and has real meaning,’ is so great,” she says. “I like the fact we can bring the mobile unit and have a presence and just combine the two worlds."
