Miranda Lambert: Saving Country Music, One Woman at a Time
Miranda Lambert's commitment to women in country music is absolute. The country singer has hosted all-female tours, established scholarships and spent hours coaching artists unknown to the public at the time. Here are five that she's introduced or helped shape into stars.
Anna Vaus is the most unheralded of these artists, if only because she's still in school at Belmont University. The singer and one-time #LetTheGirlsPlay artist of the month earned the first-ever Miranda Lambert Women Creators scholarship in 2016, and she told Taste of Country how it was a huge boost to her career and confidence.
Aubrie Sellers may say the same thing. The Taste of Country RISERS artist credits Lambert for some sound advice and encouragement to chase art in the face of mainstream expectations. It did, after all, work for her. Sellers toured with Lambert in early 2017 and appreciated how the headliner watched nearly every moment of her opening set.
Ashley Monroe didn't need songwriting or singing help from her best friend, but Lambert's fans are now Monroe's fans because of their friendship. She too toured with the superstar, but she's received more direct support, as well. Monroe's last album was released within days of the star singer's divorce announcement, but both halves of the busted marriage set their differences aside to tweet about the release.
Maren Morris has acknowledge that the Taste of Country Music Festival headliner knocked through a few obstacles that may have slowed her down. RaeLynn says the same thing and adds that it was Lambert who told her to slow down. Fresh off The Voice, RaeLynn just wanted to put that first album out, but she listened to a suggestion that she should wait until she's truly ready. "Miranda told me ... 'You can only jump out of a plane once," she told Taste of Country. "You only get to have your first record out once and you want it to be a statement."
Lambert's last album The Weight of These Wings was quite a statement, but that's the norm for the multi-time Female Vocalist of the Year.
