The relationship between country music and the mullet haircut is a long and strong one. The mullet was big in the '80s and '90s, then disappeared for a while, then came back as of late.

Terri Clark Knows the Real Reason Blake Shelton Ditched His Mullet

Clark was a recent guest on Taste of Country Nights on Demand to talk about her new duets album, Take Two, and she spilled the beans on a particularly funny story that involved Blake Shelton and his mullet.

Clark was talking about how competitive it was back in the day, and how at one point she and Shelton were fighting over the No. 1 spot on the singles charts. Shelton had "Austin," and Clark had "Girls Lie Too" in release at the time.

Clark then got to the mullet story that had us in stiches.

"My best Blake story was CMA Fest, then Fan Fair, at the fairgrounds, and it's more of a story that he should tell, because it's pretty funny."

The "You're Easy on the Eyes" singer continued, "But he was getting out of a car and into a golf cart to go sign. There were a bunch of fans behind him, and all they could see is behind him."

This is where Clark started bursting out laughing while trying to tell the story.

"They [the fans] were like, 'Terri, hey Terri.' This is really bad for me and really bad for him. Like seriously, people saw me like I look like a football player with a mullet? What the hell, man?"

Clark then went into the repercussions of that event.

"And then he immediately cut his hair. He tells the story like that might be one of the reasons that he cut his hair. 'Don't want to be mistaken for a chick, man.'"

Was Clark Offended by This Exchange at the Time?

No, she said. "I take it as a compliment; he has a better ass than me."
