It was a particularly rough year for the Charlie Daniels Band. In January 2011, former guitarist Tommy Crain passed away at age 59. Crain was the Grammy Award-winning co-writer of 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia,' and a longtime friend of Daniels. “Tommy Crain will always be a part of the CDB family, and his music will always be a part of the CDB sound,” Daniels said in a statement. “We have lost a good friend, and the world has lost a unique, creative and precious human being … You were special, buddy. We’re going to miss you.”
