Chris Stapleton won his first Grammy Award as a solo artist on Monday afternoon (Feb. 15). His song "Traveller" took the Country Solo Performance category at the 2016 Grammys pre-telecast, besting hit songs from 2015.

The category included strong performances from Cam (“Burning House”), Carrie Underwood (“Little Toy Guns”), Keith Urban (“John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16”) and Lee Ann Womack (“Chances Are”). Wearing a black shirt, and navy blue jean jacket, the humbled singer thanked his family, wife, producer Dave Cobb and management team for the win.

"I've never had one of these, and that's amazing," Stapleton said, referring to the numerous times he was nominated with his band the SteelDrivers. "Third time's a charm, I guess"

His music is nominated for four total 2016 Grammy Awards, including Best Country Album and Album of the Year, both of which will be given out during the CBS telecast (8PM ET). Six months ago, few outside of the most diehard country music fans knew his name, but after three big CMA Awards wins and a performance with Justin Timblerlake, Stapleton is the artist fans are hoping represents the future of country music.

Despite expectations that he'd be bringing home some Grammy hardware, the 37-year-old seemed shocked by his wins. He didn't come to the pre-show stage with prepared remarks, but made sure to thank the important people in his life, including wife Morgane.
