‘Duck Dynasty': Sadie Robertson’s Daughter’s Health Problems Revealed
Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson Huff has shared the full story behind her baby daughter Kit's two terrifying choking incidents.
What first appeared to be a one-time freak incident turned out to be a serious underlying condition for 9-month-old Kit, and it required emergency hospitalization and surgery. Along the way, Huff and her family encountered several more hurdles, as well as some incredibly lucky turns of fate.
What Happened to Sadie Robertson Huff's Daughter, Kit?
Huff spoke about Kit's first choking incident in mid-April. She had been eating at the time, and after a brief hospitalization, they went home hoping to never have an experience like that again.

Unfortunately, just two and a half weeks later, the same thing happened again.
"That was just so terrifying because at that point we knew ... she's not just choking. Something is wrong," Huff and her husband, Christian, recounted on a new episode of her Whoa That's Good podcast.
What happened next went fast: They took Kit back to the hospital, where she underwent initial testing to rule out cardiac and neurological issues. But the doctor there had a hunch that her medical issues were linked to some noisy breathing she'd experienced since birth, and referred her to a specialist in Baton Rouge, La.
As luck would have it, the neighbor at the house where Kit's first choking incident took place had picked up footage of the entire incident on their Ring camera.
Huff says that she showed the video to her medical team, the doctor was able to quickly realize that this wasn't just two simple choking episodes. Kit's whole body turned purple and she went completely limp and lifeless once her airway was obstructed. The specialist admitted them immediately to the hospital after seeing the video, saying, "This is not normal."
What's Wrong With Sadie Robertson Huff's Daughter, Kit?
- Kit was diagnosed with severe laryngomalacia, and her choking episodes were caused by aspiration (pulling food into the airway or lungs.)
- According to the Cleveland Clinic, laryngomalacia is common in infants.
- It typically isn't a cause for concern. Most don't have trouble with feeding or breathing, even though they may breathe noisily.
- However, severe laryngomalacia can cause aspiration, pauses in breathing, difficulty swallowing and inability to gain weight.
- Severe laryngomalacia is treatable with surgery.
Kit underwent surgery in Baton Rouge, but the family hit some more hurdles before she was able to have the procedure. Pre-op viral testing revealed she had rhinovirus, which meant she wasn't able to have surgery that day.
Then, the night before the rescheduled surgery was supposed to take place, she came down with "the worst croup-y sounding cough" — and once again, her operation was pushed back. Meanwhile, Huff's husband Christian and their two older daughters came down to stay with them in an AirBnB. But the next morning, they woke up and saw that their oldest child, Honey, had "bites all over her."
It turned out that the previous guest had had a dog with fleas, and some remained in the house. That wasn't the end of the issues with the place where they were staying. Huff says she found a frog in the fridge's ice-maker, and a leak in the roof was causing mold issues.

But the family had some incredible luck to counteract those misfortunes. A chance meeting that Christian had at a workout class led to Huff reconnecting with someone she'd fallen out of touch with, who just so happened to have a free home for them to stay in after they left their AirBnb.
Even more incredibly, it turned out that this person's son had gone through the same health issue, and the same surgery, that Kit was currently facing. On top of that, she was a speech pathologist who was later able to asses Kit.
How Is Sadie Robertson Huff's Daughter Kit Doing Today?
Kit's surgery was a success, and she's been recovering smoothly in the weeks since. Huff says that she saw "dramatic improvement" in her ability to eat and take a bottle almost immediately.
Her noisy breathing, which she's had since she was a newborn, is also resolved.
"When we did the surgery, it was wild getting to see the before and after pictures," Huff adds. "Because it was severe. Her airway was completely covered."
In her podcast episode about the experience, Huff stressed how much her faith has played a role in this difficult time for the family. She sang worship songs to Kit over and over again in the hospital, and says the experience has changed the way she prays and interacts with God.

"I've said this before and I'll say it again: You don't ever want to have to experience a miracle," Huff reflects, "Because when you go through a miracle it means you had to go through a moment of desperation."
"But then it's like, God, I cannot deny the evidence that you're here and the evidence that you're faithful," she adds.
