Blake Shelton wanted to get Craig Morgan's new song to No. 1 on the country sales chart. "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost" is now on the verge of pushing Lizzo out of the way on the all-genre iTunes chart, thanks to some help from celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres.

The song is a moving first-person note that describes the days, weeks and years (now three years) after Morgan's son Jerry died. The "Redneck Yacht Club" hitmaker debuted it on Fox & Friends two weeks ago, but his old friend Shelton started to give it a major push on Twitter this week by first saying he'd give up his spot on the radio for the ballad.

Over the next 48 hours the "God's Country" hitmaker urged his fans to download Morgan's song to get him to No. 1 on the rolling iTunes sales chart. He charted its progress and celebrated Thursday morning (Sept. 12) when it reached the top spot. He may not be done yet.

Shelton's girlfriend Gwen Stefani has retweeted most of his tweets and added a few of her own. DeGeneres also tweeted about the song and urged her 78 million followers to support Morgan, too.

Travis Tritt and Ricky Skaggs are a couple others who joined the fight.

The simplicity of Shelton's mission is what's remarkable. He just wants people to hear a song he believes in and believes others will benefit from. "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost" becomes a big vocal showcase by the end, but at its core, the song is one man's inspiring missive about life after losing a loved one. It's a relatable message that enough people have gotten behind to knock Lizzo out of the No. 1 spot, if only for a little while.

Blake Shelton tickets are still available to all of his shows still slated for 2019.
