Jason Aldean Recognizes Two-Year Anniversary of Route 91 Fest Shooting in Las Vegas
Jason Aldean and his wife Brittany started Tuesday recognizing a painful anniversary for them, thousands of fans in Las Vegas on Oct. 1, 2017 and the nation at large. Two years ago, a gunman opened fire during the singer's set at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, killing 58 and wounding many more.
The gunman took his own life before police got to him inside the Mandalay Bay hotel across from the festival venue on the Las Vegas strip. Aldean was singing "When She Says Baby" when the gunfire started. He and his band — plus the thousands in attendance — rushed for cover when they realized what was happening.
"This will always be a tough day for us. Not a day goes by that we don’t think about our @route91harvest family," Aldean says on Instagram.
Brittany Aldean shared a photo of the couple back in Las Vegas for the first time, taken just days after the shooting as they went to see victims. The hotel is in the distance and the couple is locked arm in arm.
"This day will always be a tragic memory. Always in our thoughts and prayers #route91family," she writes.
Route 91 Harvest Festival was a yearly, multi-day country music festival in Las Vegas that in 2017 also featured performances from Eric Church, Jake Owen, Sam Hunt and Lee Brice. Owen and Chris Young (who was just visiting) were among the other artists on site that day. Both men provided information to emergency crews and news outlets in real-time.
