Josh Turner hasn't had a new album out since 2012, but he wants to assure his fans that it's not by choice.

The baritone-voiced traditional country singer released Punching Bag in 2012, and since then, the only new music his fans have heard from the singer is a single, "Lay Low," that he released in 2014. In a recent interview with the Albuquerque Journal, Turner reveals that he's got a new album almost entirely complete, and explains why it's taken so long.

“If it were up to me, I would have had an album out in 2013,” he says. “There have been a lot of business issues that have popped up and I’m just pushing forward. The new music is there and I want to get it out to my fans.”

In fact, Turner began working on the new album in January of 2013. He is hopeful that he'll be able to release another single in the early part of 2016.

“The fans have been pretty anxious,” he says. “Then I have to remind them that this is a business and there are a lot of things that I can’t control.”

Turner won't have a shortage of material to draw from for the new project. In April of 2014, he told the Boot that he had written more than 60 songs to choose from. He also filled his time with a book titled Man Stuff: Thoughts on Faith, Family and Fatherhood, as well as volunteer work for various organizations.

" A lot of people may think that I’ve been idle,” he tells the Journal. “These are all important to me and I try to make time for it all.”
