9-Year-Old Luke Bryan Fan Loses Her Battle With Cancer
A 9-year-old girl who would not be denied a special meet and greet with Luke Bryan has lost her battle with cancer. Addi Keegan died on Sept 4.
The Amherst News-Times in Oberlin, Ohio, reported the news in an article about her elementary school classmates' Sept. 22 walk through downtown Amherst, Ohio, in her honor. The little girl was diagnosed with cancer at 22 months old and fought aggressive brain tumors for most of her life.
Bryan and his country music fanbase learned about her in July when he played a show in Cleveland, Ohio. A Special Wish Cleveland had arranged for Addi to meet the singer, but thinking she wasn't up for it, they set up a private show by local band Country Redford in her backyard. They played all her favorite Luke Bryan songs, but on the morning of the superstar's show she decided she could make it. From a wheelchair she told him her favorite song was "Play It Again." Bryan promised he'd play it in her honor that night.
From a press box Addi and her family watched as he made good on his promise. "Thank you to Luke Bryan for spending time with Addi last night before your show and for giving her a quick shoutout before you sang her favorite song. She got to watch and sing along to her favorites in her own private press box," the non-profit wrote on Facebook.
Country Redford took a moment to honor Addi on Facebook and during a live show earlier this month. Keegan's mother Kelly and father Kyle have both added gold ribbons to their Facebook profile photos. It's a reminder that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
