Car Karaoke Led to the Property Brothers Covering Flo Rida’s ‘My House’ [Watch]
The stars of HGTV's Property Brothers have released a country cover of Flo Rida's "My House," and they admit the unusual idea came about quite by accident.
The Scott Brothers, made up of Drew and Jonathan Scott, have been dabbling in country music for several years. During a recent interview with Taste of Country and other media outlets, Jonathan says he originally had the idea to cover Flo Rida's hit while driving.
“The song came on and I’m a car singer,” he confesses. “I will admit, I'm a car karaoke kind of guy. I would sing the song and I thought, 'This song is fantastic, but it would make an amazing country song!'”
He brought the idea to his producer, Victoria Shaw, and she agreed. “There's so much crossover between country and hip-hop that we thought that would be the perfect one,” he adds.
The brothers enlisted the help of Eric Paslay on the track after he stuck his head in on their studio session. They decided to have him perform the rap portion mid-track. Loving what they heard, they then asked Paisley to assist on the entire track.
RaeLynn and Lindsay Ell also joined in on the fun music video for the song, which was shot at Drew and Jonathan's pad in Las Vegas. The video is a sight to see as it includes mermaids, fire breathers, a llama, a monkey and a party of epic proportions.
All proceeds from the song will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
