Rodney Crowell and Lyle Lovett have joined together for a new duet titled "What You Gonna Do Now," and the result is a rollicking good time that's also somewhat of a wry cautionary tale.

The rockin' track is an exuberant slice of pure Texas country-rock, framed by simple electric guitar chords and pounding drums. Crowell takes the verses, which consist of a litany of fanciful notions of what the narrator might do next, including moving to Spain and climbing Machu Picchu. His wandering spirit, drinking habits and flights of fancy don't sit well with a woman he's interested in, who "says she's glad to be my friend 'til I'm back down on Earth again."

In the end, she's "washed her hands of me" after he "pushed my luck too far, left a nasty scar," and the song ends on a rueful note, with the narrator once again wondering, "What you gonna do now?"

“On ‘What You Gonna Do Now,' Lyle Lovett’s character provides the voice of reason while mine rattles on about the women who see this guy for what he is: another dude afraid to commit," Crowell tells us.
