‘The Voice:’ Aliyah Moulden Makes Her Case With Original Song, Stevie Wonder Cover
Aliyah Moulden took The Voice stage for two solo performances on Monday (May 22), as she's vying for the champion title in Season 12.
This season's youngest contestant kicked the show off with her first original song, "Never Be Lonely," which she describes as a song about unreciprocated love, wrapped into a bouncy pop song that's bound to get stuck in your head. Her coach Blake Shelton describes the new song as a "vintage throwback sound" that has "personality," calling it a "radio hit" that's perfect for her.
Moulden dressed the part of '90s pop star for her performance, dressed in a white romper and sparkly white sneakers to match, even rocking some Princess Leia buns. She turned the stage into an old-school cafeteria, dancing along to the catchy track on a set complete with vintage black-and-white checkered floor and young dancers dressed in vibrant outfits helped bring the song to life as a break dancer spun on his head.
Coach Shelton and Alicia Keys could be seen bopping along to the catchy beat, with the former comparing the performance to that of Glee. "You as a human being, if people could know her, you would want all these great things to happen for her because she's such an awesome person to be around," Shelton raved after the performance.
Moulden took the stage later in the night to sing an R&B classic, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours,' making a compelling case for fans to make her the next Voice winner. The song is a good fit for her voice and perky personality, as she bestows all the confidence to pull the fiery song off. Moulden bounced around the stage for the song's entirety, clearly having a ball during her time on stage.
The performance was especially exciting when a hoard of pink and purple balloons rained down from the rafters and showered the audience, covering the stage, before the 15-year-old ended the performance by flashing a big showbiz smile at the cameras. The Voice Season 12 winner will be announced on Tuesday (May 23) at 8PM ET on NBC.
