‘The Voice': Which of Blake Shelton’s Country Boys Will Be Eliminated?
Blake Shelton is the most-winning coach in The Voice history, and he has more chances to win this season than anyone else, too. Shelton's contestants represented one-third of the entire field going into the round of performances on Monday night (April 29) that will determine who stays and who goes home, including three standout country singers.
Monday night on The Voice was a businesslike affair, concentrating on music and performances and little else, including reduced banter from the coaches. It's hardly a wonder, however, as the evening required all the Top 24 contestants to perform live for the coaches, as well as America's votes.
The night will ultimately result in a brutal cut, halving the finalists down to 12. Additionally, the teams are uneven, with Shelton having eight contestants, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend each having six and Adam Levine with four.
Shelton's eight include three country singers who will surely have voters scratching their heads as to which one is the best.
First up was Andrew Sevener, whose choice of Randy Houser's "Boots On" was a solid decision. Cowboy-hatted and looking the part, this performance was fine, but not quite as memorable as his last, where he managed to beat out a whole trio (the Bundys) and earn rather awed admiration from all the coaches as a result.
Next (after a couple of Shelton's non-country-oriented contestants), Gyth Ridgon tried his pipes on "I Want to be Loved Like That" by Shenandoah. Rigdon's style is markedly different from the other country singers this season, and the ballad was a wise choice to show off his uniqueness. This may keep him from being somewhat of a sure shot, but he certainly makes the show a lot more interesting!
Finally, Dexter Roberts gave the crowd his all in the primo "pimp spot," delivering "Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You" by Brooks & Dunn. Roberts, as we all know by now, is a seasoned pro at this reality show game, having tested his mettle on American Idol in the past. He's probably the surest bet to win America's heart, but it's definitely a hard choice to decide between these three talents.
Who will squeak on through? Check back for the results Tuesday (Apr. 30).
