Thomas Rhett Wins CMA’s Single of the Year for ‘Die a Happy Man’

Thomas Rhett kicked off the 2016 CMA Awards with a big win for Single of the Year on Wednesday (Nov. 2). Dressed in a suit and bowtie, the singer got emotional accepting his first-ever CMA Award for "Die a Happy Man."

After thanking producers Dann Huff and Jesse Frasure who stood behind him on the stage, Rhett thanked his wife, fans, label and management.

"I have to first thank the Lord for making all this happen for us, for opening the doors for me and making me sing in the first place," he said. "My lovely wife in the blue dress right there. She was the full inspiration for this song and I'm still trying to get over the opening of this show. Good Lord, me and Garth were crying together. It was a very intimate moment."

Gaining his composure, he also thanked the CMAs, country radio and "all of my amazing fans."

"This is a dream come true. This is gonna go in a special place. Thank you guys so much. Cheers," he added.

Rhett wrote his No. 1 single "Die a Happy Man" with Sean Douglas and Joe Spargur. It was the second single from his second studio album, Tangled Up.

The 2016 CMA Awards are broadcast live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
