Bonner Bolton Dances a Tango on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Disney Night [Watch]
Bonner Bolton broke out an unusual tango on Dancing With the Stars Monday night (April 17).
The former professional bull rider and his partner, Sharna Burgess, worked up a tango that was inspired by Wreck-It Ralph, dancing to "When Can I See You Again?" from Owl City, earning a score of 30 from the judges.
"It's a fun feeling getting to play a video game character," Bolton observed. "It brought a new energy into the rehearsal room."
Len Goodman commended the cowboy for staying in frame, saying he loved how much of the dance was in hold. Julianne Hough felt that he embodied the character, while Bruno Tonioli was less complimentary, saying Bolton's performance was somewhat two-dimensional. Carrie Ann Inaba praised his technique, but warned him to be more aware of dynamics.
Bolton's run on DWTS has attracted a lot of attention for the fact that it comes just over a year after he was thrown from a bull and broke his neck, resulting in temporary paralysis. Doctors have told him he will never be cleared to return to bull riding, but his brave story has inspired fans all over the country as he struggles with his own physical limitations to learn complex dances each week.
“I’m still me, but if anything I do notice that it is starting to inspire people and that’s what this is all about for me coming on the show," he tells TooFab. "It’s not really about winning or losing. It’s just the fact that I’m out here doing this and the longer I stay doing it, the more it inspires people, so hopefully I can keep stepping up to the challenge."
Dancing With the Stars airs Monday nights on ABC at 8PM ET.
