The loss of Senator John McCain on Saturday (Aug. 25) at the age of 81 spurred a number of country musicians to honor the American war hero with posts on social media. Brad Paisley, however, decided to pay tribute that night at his concert in Bristow, Va., with a simple but moving gesture.

After singing his 2005 hit "When I Get Where I'm Going," Paisley tipped his hat to a photo of McCain, projected onto the jumbo screen behind him. The audience rose out of their seats, cheering for the memory of McCain and Paisley's thoughtful tribute.

As Paisley wrote on his social media accounts: "We lost an American hero today. Thank you for your service to our country, and your bravery, Sen. McCain."

McCain's passing drew bipartisan mourning throughout the news and entertainment world, with stars who didn't share his politics sharing respectful words on social media. One of these was Tim McGraw, who admitted he didn't always see eye-to-eye with McCain. "A true American Hero and patriot. We may not have agreed on everything but he’s a better man than I could hope to be," McGraw wrote. "Such a needed voice right now. His voice still rings."
