Cam Honors Dolores O’Riordan With Rockin’ ‘Zombie’ Cover [Watch]
Cam, like so many, grew up listening to the Cranberries, and at a recent show in Nashville she channeled the late Dolores O'Riordan with a performance of the group's 1990s hit "Zombie."
It was part of a January 20 show at Music City's Basement East called Sing Me Back Home: A Celebration of Artists Lost in 2017.
"Zombie" was a natural choice for Cam, as it fits well with both her voice and personality. "In your head, in your head, they are fightin' / With their tanks, and their bombs / And air bombs, and their guns / In your head, in your head, they are cryin,'" she belts over electric guitar and heavy drums in the video above, doing the band's signature song justice.
O'Riordan wrote "Zombie" in 1993 as a protest to the Warrington bomb attacks that took place in England that same year. It has become one of the Cranberries most impactful songs, topping multiple charts across the world including in the U.S. O'Riordan died on Jan. 15 at the age of 46.
Several Nashville stars came together at Sing Me Back Home to pay tribute to the legends lost over the past year: Glen Campbell, Chuck Berry, Tom Petty and David Bowie were all honored.
Cam released her latest single "Diane" — a callback to Dolly Parton's iconic hit "Jolene" — in late 2017. "For me 'Diane' is some people I knew when I was younger, some parents of friends ... a lot of people are 'Diane,'" she tells Taste of Country about the song. "What's great right now is that people are writing in and I do a 'Dear Diane' live stream where I kind of talk about it with people and there is so many Dianes."
