Carrie Underwood remembers songwriter Busbee as talented and kind and someone she was fortunate to work with in recent years.

The country star shared a photo of herself and Keith Urban with Busbee, taken after the pair of singers found success with "The Fighter" in 2016. Busbee co-wrote the song with Urban for his Ripcord album and helped make sure Underwood would be a part of it by going above and beyond to record her part when Urban couldn't be there.

In an Instagram message, Underwood also recalls writing with the 43-year-old, although their collaborations haven't surfaced on any of her albums. Busbee (Michael James Ryan) died on Saturday (Sept. 28), reportedly after a battle with a rare brain cancer. He leaves behind a wife and daughters.

"I was lucky enough to get to write and work with @busbee," Underwood shares. "So talented...always kind...taken from this earth far far too soon. Some things just don’t make sense. Please keep his family in your prayers."

"The Fighter" is one of more than 1,000 Busbee songs listed at the BMI repertoire page. He scored hits with Maren Morris, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, Carly Pearce and pop singers Pink and Gwen Stefani. Busbee lived a private live and did very few interviews. His death was first confirmed in a tweet by Morris.
