Chris Stapleton Wins Second Album of the Year at CMA Awards
Chris Stapleton won Album of the Year at the 2017 CMA Awards Wednesday for his latest full-length work, From A Room: Volume 1.
For Stapleton, this means two solo albums and two Album of the Year awards — for Traveller in 2015 and From A Room: Volume 1 in 2017 — an impressive feat for the accomplished country artist and songwriter.
Another feather in Stapleton's cowboy hat, the 39-year-old's artist career truly began at the 2015 CMA Awards. That show was magical for Stapleton, who performed "Tennessee Whiskey" and "Drink You Away' with pop icon Justin Timberlake, creating one of the most memorable performances in CMA history.
That same night, Stapleton won awards for New Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and aforementioned Album of the Year. Approximately one week after the CMAs, Stapleton's album Traveller, which was released six months prior to the show, rose to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Traveller sold over 50,000 copies that week and put Stapleton on the country music map as an artist.
From A Room: Volume 1 was produced by Stapleton and buzzworthy Nashville producer Dave Cobb, who also produced The Nashville Sound by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, a fellow work nominated for Album of the Year. From A Room: Volume 1 also won over Little Big Town's The Breaker, Lady Antebellum's Heart Break and Miranda Lambert's The Weight of These Wings.
"Those were so many great records that just got mentioned," Stapleton said from the stage. "I'm always humbled by getting these things." Notably, Stapleton also thanked his wife and children, including the twins he and his wife are expecting.
