Chris Young is still in recovery after having surgery on his left hand -- the result of a cooking accident this summer. The star shares what it's like to live one-handed ... and one really big, important lesson he's learned from the slip-up.

"I can do almost everything now, but I'm about two months away from being able to play guitar," Young tells People. The 'Who I Am With You' singer had to miss his CMA Fest set at LP Field after the accident, and his post-surgery shows were performed while wearing a sling.

During Young's recovery, he's been keeping his distance from knives, but even an accident this scary can't stand between a country singer and his love for a beautiful piece of steak.

"It's still hard to cut meat, but there was a good-looking steak at backstage catering this summer. I wanted it really bad, but I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of everybody, so I took it back to my bus and was totally embarrassed when I was busted gripping the fork in my mouth to hold down the steak while I used my good hand to saw."

Hopefully, Young will soon be able to saw through steak with no problem and rock out on the guitar once again. But he'll forever be wary of knives, admitting, "I've learned a lot in my life, but the big lesson is, 'If a knife falls off the counter, jump back!'"

Even though he's been a bit out of commission, the star is still hot on the country charts, nabbing his sixth No. 1 in July with 'Who I am With You,' which is officially certified Gold. Young is currently on Dierks Bentley's Riser Tour with Jon Pardi and Chase Rice.
