Devin Dawson returns with a third single from his debut album, the project's title track, "Dark Horse." It's a song that best represents who he is as a person and as a musician; an introspective look at the California native with honest lyrics and heartfelt vocals.

"I'll side with the outsiders / Those long-shot last-round fighters / Anyone who ain't afraid to stray off course / My heart bleeds for country music / Where the honest outlaw truth is / No, I ain't no white knight / I'm a little more dark horse," he sings on the chorus.

The stripped-down ballad has Dawson's vocals at the forefront, alongside delicate acoustic guitar finger picking and soaring pedal-steel accompaniment. The track's soft music helps to highlight Dawson's whispered vocals and memorable lyrics.

"I wrote that song in a weird, selfish way. I wrote it for myself, about myself. I wanted for people to get to know me," he previously told Taste of Country. "It's become this really relatable song for other people who go, 'That's me. That's who I am.' It's really cool to see something that started out so selfish to become this movement and this relatable thing that people have latched onto."

"Dark Horse" follows Dawson's previous two singles, "Asking for a Friend" and Top 5 hit "All on Me."

Did You Know?: The song almost didn't make it onto the album. After finishing up some studio time with Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Brothers Osborne, Little Big Town), Dawson met up with friends and songwriters Andy Albert and Andrew DeRoberts. The three co-writers penned the song and Dawson immediately knew "Dark Horse" had to become the album's title track.

Devin Dawson's "Dark Horse" Lyrics:

People always ask why I wear black / Where'd I get my style and why I never smile in pictures / They ask me what I drink, I'll sip on anything / But I'm a little more California smoke than liquor / No, it ain't that I'm self-conscious, I'm just conscious of myself

Chorus
I'll side with the outsiders / Those long-shot last-round fighters / Anyone who ain't afraid to stray off course / My heart bleeds for country music / Where the honest outlaw truth is / No, I ain't no white knight / I'm a little more dark horse

No, I don't go to church, can't quote a Bible verse / I couldn't sing a song, that don't mean that I don't talk to Jesus / Girls say I push them off, that I can't open up / But I ain't afraid of love, when I say it I just want to mean it

Chorus
No, it ain't that I'm self-conscious / I'm just conscious of myself / And I don't know how to be nobody else

Chorus
Dark horse, ooh yeah / Dark horse / Dark horse
