Dolly Parton Playing Hometown ‘Ho’ in New Film
Dolly Parton stopped by The Tonight Show to talk with Jimmy Fallon about her upcoming TV Christmas movie, Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, and the character she plays.
The film is a sequel to Coat of Many Colors, which was a ratings smash in 2015. Parton had Fallon and the audience roaring with laughter when she revealed that she would play "the town trollop" in the movie. The character is based off a real-life memory from Parton's childhood, a woman who influenced the young singer's style choices.
“I get to actually play a little part in the movie because when I was little, I patterned my look after the town trollop in our town. I guess that’s what you call them!” the Country Music Hall of Fame member says. "I thought she was the most beautiful thing; she had all this makeup and hair and those tight clothes, and everything I wanted."
We all have the town trollop to thank for Parton's noteworthy wardrobes over the years, even though she didn't personally know the woman.
"Well, I never called her name," she says in the most perfect, sweetly Southern tone. "I never really got to know her really because I don’t think her family probably knew she was a ho."
Fallon just about lost his cool when he heard the queen of country use the blunt term, but it was totally worth it.
Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love will premiere on television amidst the holiday season, airing Nov. 30. Her latest album, Pure & Simple, is available now.
